In Dedication Of My Accomplishments To My Uncle and Aunt Castillo. May The Lord Receive Them In His Glory.

July 18th, 2008

*  I’m very sad to inform all my friends/fans that our beloved Aunt Lupilla has passed on.  With great gratitude and humbleness I thank each and every one of you for the endless prayers.  I do have to tell you that our biggest shock was when her husband, Uncle Chavelillo pass away from a massive heart attack while she was in a coma.  Both were great examples of a beautiful love story, never away from each other, always making everyone feel special and loved.  Their children and grand children as well as every one of us will miss them immensely.  May the Lord receive them in His Glory.

“Little Miss CEO” Is Shelbie Bruce Directed by the wonderful, well known, John Bowab from “The Facts Of Life”, “Full House”, “Family Matters”, etc.

*  ”Little Miss CEO”  I am sooo… blessed to share the exiting news that I just shot a Pilot presentation that was directed by the “amazing” John Bowab.  He is best know for “The Facts of Life”, “Full House”, “Family Matters”… and many more.  This is the project I’ve been waiting for my entire young life.  Very soon there will be a website that will introduce you to the show.  I ask all my friend/fans to pray that this project find it’s way to a Network.  Without disclosing too much of it, I can tell you that this is what

Hollywood is in desperate need of.  Young kids need to feel motivated and inspired to dream big and reach for the stars and NOT to feel like they have to be popular or the one that stands out for the wrong reasons.  Instead, it’s OK to be different and stand out for being smart and a go getter.  So stay tuned for more info. I wish I could tell you more and believe me I’m dying to tell you ALL about it, but a little at a time I’ll be informing you of the steps that have been taken, OK!

“El Tux”

New York Latin Film Festival Winner Directed by Paco FariasIt will air on HBO in September; Hispanic Heritage Month ! ! !

“Hispanic Heritage Foundation” Blog

*I’m very stoked to let everyone know that I was honored with an invitation to be the very first guest blogger for the Hispanic Heritage Foundation Website.  I will start this month of July and soon I will have a link where you’ll be able to read my blogs.  Stay tuned for that, OK.

“CAAF” Children Affected by Aids Foundation

*  Plans are well on their way with my committee to prepare for a successful year of awareness.  I’m so happy to be able to do for others in need and with God’s blessings I will continue to work hard to set a good example for the youth of the world.  This year will be the second one for my fundraiser that will take place at my dad’s school, St. Monica Catholic High School.   I will be talking to different classes to raise awareness for the foundation.  I’m VERY EXITED about it.  I will keep you posted.

Washington D.C.
XXII Hispanic Heritage Awards

*  I’ve been honored with the invitation once again to be a presenter at the Award Gala that will take place in Washington D.C. this coming October.  I will tell you that when I’m there I not only feel proud to be Hispanic surrounded by so many outstanding and deserving Honorees who are making a difference in our nation, but, I also get to feel proud to be a US citizen surrounded by so many land marks, like the Lincoln Memorial,  The White House and so many museums that remind us of our history and where we come from, that I feel even more honored to represent the youth that will one day help change the world through hard work and good example.

Hoping all wonderful Moms had a blessed day!!!!!!!!

MY BIRTHDAY WEEK

November 25th, 2007

Well everyone, the time has finally come.  I am 15!!!  This past week has been the greatest.  First, my party was incredible. My goal was to have a memorable night knowing that I had not broken my parent’s savings.  With a little extra team work and creativity from my brother and my parents, I can sure tell you there is absolutely no excuse to waste money on areas that are meaningless.  After all, a “Quinceanera” celebration is about good memories, not about the worry of how we are going to pay for everything.  Time management was a priority, with school, acting, dance and vocal classes, as well as preparing for my party, I knew I didn’t have the luxury of wasting any.  I knew, I wanted for my colors to be gold, ivory, with a touch of light pink.  I also knew I wanted to give a bottle of my perfume “Florecita Shelbie Bruce” to all my guests as well as tiaras to the girls because I didn’t want to be the only one to feel like a princess.  With that in mind we sat down as a family and set a budget and put together a good plan.  One month before my party, my mother and I spent time shopping for table decorations, gift bags, items to go inside the bags, cake, outfit to wear, ordering invitations, gift bag cards, table thank you notes, reserve the room at the restaurant I wanted my party to be and last but not least book a “Mariachi” band.  I know, I know… you might think I’m crazy for not doing things a year in advance.  Well I applied one of my favorite sayings, “where there is a will, there is a way” and I can assure you, it can be done.  The importance of creating memories is very important to me and I can tell you that I will never forget the days my mom, brother and I spent spray painting plain old brown bags with gold paint to match my colors, as well as tying all the ivory ribbon bows for the bags and the special notes I wanted each one to have that read as follows: “A little something for a special person, love Shelbie”.  I also will never forget designing and making a drawing of my own cake in order for the cake maker not to charge us extra for her own creation.  Also, my mother is very good with crafts so she came up with the most beautiful center pieces that every professional decorator would have charged us anywhere from $80.00 to $100.00 dollars per piece and instead we spent only about $15.00.  Choosing the restaurant for my party was a lot of fun.  I knew I wanted to keep my heritage alive, so I decided on a “Mexican Restaurant” of course. Choosing a restaurant versus a plain old room at a club is definitely less expensive and the decorating is minimal since restaurants now days have their own décor and cozy environment.  So it’s a win win situation.  You add a little bit of your own taste, bring the mariachis and serve (in my opinion, the best food and drinks in the world) and “FELIZIDADES” you have created an amazing day, not just for yourself but for everyone around you.  I couldn’t be happier. I will never forget my special day. I sure hope you can take any ideas from my experience and remember that it’s all about the memories, not about how much money you want to spend. Remember that expensive does not mean better.

The next exciting thing that happened to me that week was that I had booked a guest staring role on the new TV series “Moonlight”.  The best part of the whole thing was that in the episode my character is celebrating her Quincenera.  But this was sooo much bigger than what I had, that they called it a Super Birthday Party.  So, it’s kind of like I got to celebrate my birthday twice, but at both extremes!  My dress was a real quinceanera dress. It was Big and Pink!  The cake was three times bigger that what I had, with SIX layers!  The only down side was that the party room was filled with people I didn’t know.  But, by the end of the shoot I had become best of friends with EVERYONE!!!  Now I know who I am going to invite to next year’s party.  Lol J!

Well, that was my incredible birthday Week!  Since it lasted literally the whole week, I hope you have enjoyed hearing about it.  I also hope that you have a great Quincenera as well.  If you haven’t had it yet, then I hope it will be the best night you have ever had.  I know mine was!!!

          Enjoy the pictures !!!!!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN EVERYONE!!!!!!

November 8th, 2007

*CONGRATS TO “Dream Halloween” WINNERS  Amy Witkowski and Andrew Nicholson

* MANY THANKS!!!! Go to St. Monica Catholic High School

I’m very thrilled to report my latest adventure having to do with an organization that is very dear to my heart.  This organization is, the “Children Affected by Aids Foundation”.  Last year I had the honor of being appointed the Honorary Chair Person of the Youth Committee”.  Mattel created a Polly Pocket that was auctioned off at a yearly Gala called “Dream Halloween” that the foundation puts together.  My fellow actress and friend Dakota Fanning was the first young actress to have been given the same honor.  This year Rumor Willis and Andrea Bowen, were the two teens that had the same honor, along with Terry Hatcher,

Cher, Elvira and Jason Priestly.  All the money raised at the auction goes to create opportunities for all those children and families who have been affected by Aids either from loosing a parent or even are affected with Aids themselves.  Some of the opportunities the foundation creates for these families, include, summer camps, …. Etc…  One of the main and very excited events, is the much known “DREAM HALLOWEEN” as I mentioned above. This event if full of entertainment, food galore, and the unending parading of every character known to children, such as Barbie, Shreck, Spiderman and many, many more.  Every child and many adults are dressed in costumes, but it would not be Halloween if not for the incredible Trick-or-Treating. This, I might say, is not any Trick-or-Treating…. The children get from collectible race cars, dolls, back packs, books, board games, to mention a few.In light of all these that I’ve mentioned, I felt motivated to do more than just lend my name to the organization, so I came up with the idea to not just promote the organization, but, to create awareness among teens.  My dad works at St. Monica Catholic High School, so what better place than to start there.  I had the campus ministry committee to join forces and came up with a two week of awareness, where I had the pleasure to talk to all the students. The CAAF organization provided us with pins, antenna balls, brochures etc…  as well as two tickets to be raffled at the end of the two weeks.  Boy oh boy did the winners get an evening of pampering or what!!!  From a Limo ride, scrumptious food, to being able to get into the two huge parties, and ending the night with the “amazing” Trick-or-Treating”.  I can’t thank the principal Tom Gasper and  Campus Ministry, enough for all their support and with God’s blessings, I’m looking forward to doing it again next year.

Remember if you are every in need of prayers for someone you know, we are here for you as well.

*A privilege to present…

This past week I had the honor and privilege to be a part of the Hispanic Heritage Awards for three consecutive years.  Every year I meet the new group of youth awardees I’m blown away by how “amazing” these young adults are and this year I feel just the same.  I’m also very grateful to the organization for giving me the privilege of being able to be a presenter along side with someone I admire very much, Wilmer Valderrama.   He is not only an inspiration for his achievements but he is incredibly sweet and funny.  All through out the event and during rehearsal, he kept on calling me his “little sister”, is that incredibly cool or what!!!!!!  Check out the pictures on my new event flashing box here on this home page.

*Many thanks…

I’ve been receiving many phone calls, notes, messages from many of you who have seen me on the cover of the Mis Quince insert, that I feel the need to thank you with all my heart for all your nice wishes and congratulatory messages.  It’s very special to have so many fans and friends from all over the world who take the time.

*Children Affected by Aids…

WOW!!!  This is very exciting to me and very close to my heart.  I have had the honor to be the Honorary Chair Person of the Youth Committee for the Children Affected by Aids Foundation, this year.  So, I’m happy to share with you all that I was able to join forces with the campus ministry from St. Monica Catholic H.S. to run a fundraiser and bring awareness of what the organization is all about. Stay tuned for more on this project, OK.
